Analysing Film Noir films for your blog

Use the format you did last year i.e. 9 frames of your choice and then the analysis rather than simple text can be arrows, captions, voice over... anything that is more advanced technologically than just text!

Remember that ANALYSIS is the key word, don't just describe but explain how elements are stereotypical or not of Film Noir, why used and what effect they have.

Think about GENRE. Think about the technical aspects: camera angles etc which means the film can be identified as Film Noir.

By all means analyse neo-noirs, short films, animation whatever! Though make sure to have at least one traditional film which is your yardstick!

We Media and Democracy

Keep an eye out for stories in the media about Twitter, Facebook, Social media, blogs etc and how they have been active or used in news stories. Keep a record of what you find.

It is really helpful if you have begun to build your own resource bank for use as evidence for essays on this topic.

Foley Sound and an Introduction to Film Noir

This week you need to get your FOLEY SOUND videos finished and uploaded to your blogs, along with a short commentary and description of what Foley Sound is.

Most of you also need to get your RECREATION films uploaded with your evaluations too.

This week we will be watching DOUBLE INDEMNITY after looking at a power point presentation on the conventions and history of Film Noir.

Complete the grid sheet [see green pack] for this film and over the summer do at least TWO more one of which should be DETOUR plus some RESEARCH into the HISTORY and CONVENTIONS of this genre.

Introduction to A2 Media

So you have been introduced to what the A2 course entails and in my lessons you have started looking at FOLEY SOUND.
Today you are going to create a range of sounds and then edit them. It might be a good idea to try to give them a FILM NOIR theme so that you can use them in your coursework. You can also find some clips on the internet and set your sounds against them. In addition you could consider how you can fit them into some sort of narrative.
Once done post your finished work on your own blogs. Please give me your addresses so I can add them to this blog.
For the rest of this term we shall be looking at FILM NOIR and its codes and conventions and watching at least one film.

Over the summer please watch the following film DETOUR:

In addition you will need to do some background research on FILM NOIR, see the grid I gave you and check Show My Homework for copies of the sheets I give out in class.
